    Description

Archimed’s can is utilized to demonstrate liquid interacting with the body put into water. One can measure expulsive force which is exactly the same as the weight of displaced liquid is.

The device consists of a can (100 mm depth, 45 mm diameter), a cylinder and spring dynamometer. The can is very similar to cylinder. The can has an ear at the top and a small loop at the bottom. The can is mounted to dynaometer by means of ear. The cylinder is linked to loop by means of thread. The cylynder is filled with mixture of sand and alabaster so that the average density of the mixture is a little bit over density of the water. Dynamometer is implemented as opened spring. The top tip of spring is put on staple’s hook and the bottom tip holds the disc pointer and can hook hanged. The rod lies through holes in staple. A fixator measures spring stretching. The fixator moves on plate which moves on staple.
