The thermometer is utilized at primary acquainting with its conctruction and principle of functioning. It is also utilized in experimints requiring continous temperature measuring.

The device consists of a balloon connected with a glass capillary tube sealed off at the top. The balloon and a part of capillary are filled with colored liquid. The rest space lacks of air. The tube is fixed to a wooden bar. The wooden bar has a scale of (-10..100) °C range. The scale division is 2 °C. Each 10 degrees and zero are labeled. Black labels are put on white background to provide better visibility. The balloon lies below the ruler. Thus, the balloon can be ducked into water when the experiments are being done. The device has rather high thermal capacity and thermal inertia that leads to ability to measure the liquid’s temperature quite exactly if the volume of liquid is over 250 ml. Correct values are given out in (1-1.5) mins after the balloon has been warmed up to the environment temperature.
