L-micro computer oscillograph and its application for studying a pulsed and periodic processes in electrodynamics course

Expansion of oscillographic of multichannel digital devices with liquid crystal displays have been developed in a process of expansion. The analog-digital converter intended for computer installation has been developed too. Abilities of these devices exceed the bounds of physics course needs in secondary and higher schools, however and it is expensive. L-micro computer oscillograph especially designed by collective of near Moscow branch RNPO "Rosuchpribor" for using in educational process at a secondary schools and at institutes of higher education.

Designed on a computer and small electronic block basis, it combines a high level of computer technology, good characteristics with simplicity of using and obtainable cost. L-micro oscillograph has two channels and capable to record signal duration from several seconds up to several milliseconds. Each channel has two values of sensitivity - 0.5 and 1 V / div, also the oscillograph has three dividers (1:2, 1:5 and 1:10).

Recording of signals can be at periodic, single and manual modes. Oscilloscope triggering is realized by a signal from one of channels, and in a manual mode - by pressing the button. For a oscillograph parameter operation select there is a special window. Measured signals are displayed on a computer screen. In single and manual modes the recording signal remains on the screen. In a periodic mode it is possible to stop measurements, and at the same time the last recorded signal will be on the screen.

The signals recorded can be analyzed with the help of a marker at which motion in special windows a current value of pulsed amplitude in both channels is shown. Now on the basis of L-micro oscillograph the cycle of demonstration experiments at the electrodynamics course in secondary schools is created. With its help a periodical (an AC current circuit, a resonance, a free electromagnetic oscillations, a rectify alternating-current), and pulsed processes (condenser charge, generation of a current through inductance, etc.) are demonstrated.

Application of an oscillograph within the framework of the created cycle does not require any adjustment of oscillograph parameters held by a teacher. It is enough to assemble an experiment circuitry according to the description and to select the proper item in the list of experiments on the computer screen. The oscillograph works within a framework of the script coded at the program. In necessary cases information digital record allows easily to carry out an analysis of the received results, for example, to calculate a power of various elements of alternating current circuit or to compare condenser energy with discharge condenser energy into circuits. It makes experiment even more visual, and in some cases it enables to show not only qualitative effects, but also the quantitative dependences.
